Nagpur: Nagpur Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari on Tuesday announced that on the occasion of Senior Citizens Day, citizens above the age of 75 will be provided with free Aapli bus rides by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Besides this, on October 1, NMC will also provide ‘Nagpur darshan’ free of cost in Aapli bus. “One bus will be deployed in every NMC zone on October 1,” said Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari. The NMC in association with the Senior Citizens Council of Nagpur district have organised a few activities to mark World Senior Citizens Day as well as to celebrate India’s 75th independence year.
NMC will also be organising health check-up camps for senior citizens at 10 different locations across the city. If at all a patient gets detected with a cataract problem, they will be provided with free-of-cost operation at Mahatme Eye Hospital.
The day will commence with a ‘suryanamaskar competition’ at Chhatrapati Shivaji Park at 7am which will be followed by musical programmes for the senior citizens at 3:30pm at the Suresh Bhat auditorium.
A felicitation programme of 75 senior citizens who earned fame in the field—retired officers, social workers, medical professionals and journalism will be held at the auditorium.
However, when asked about the developmental ann restoration projects in the city, the mayor refused to answer the question.
