Nagpur: The Andhra Pradesh government in a shocking development has informed Andhra Pradesh High Court that it has decided to repeal the three administrative capitals for the state. Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh Subhramaniyam, Sriram told the high court that Amaravati will remain the sole capital of the state.

According to Bar and Bench, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will be making an announcement in the assembly to this effect soon. The YSRC government had brought the bill to have three capitals to the state—executive capital at Vishakapatnam, judicial capital at Kurnool and legislative capital at Amaravati.

A batch of petitions were filed by the Amaravati region farmers and daily hearing of the case is being held by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. In 2020, the Union home ministry had informed the high court that the capital city of the state is to be decided by the state government and the centre has no role to play in it.

The Panel had submitted its report on August 30, 2014 which was sent to the Andhra Pradesh government two days later. The affidavit mentioned that the state government issued an order dated April 23, 2015 notifying the capital of the state to be Amaravati.
