On the basis of advice from the RIVM, the cabinet has decided to extend all applicable flight bans.

For travelers from South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe, the flight ban will apply until 11:59 PM on Wednesday 15 December.

At the request of Minister De Jonge (Public Health, Welfare and Sport), Minister Visser (Infrastructure and Water Management) has introduced flight bans to prevent the spread of the corona variant Omikron, which circulates in the southern part of Africa, as much as possible.

The measures are being taken to limit the number of travel movements from these areas.

Exceptions for certain groups of travelers –

There are exceptions for certain groups of travelers .
For example for people with a Dutch passport. They can fly to the Netherlands.

The same applies to people from EU and Schengen countries who are in transit to their country of residence.

Cargo flights are also exempt from the ban.
For these exceptions, flights may continue to go. It is up to the airlines whether they continue to operate flights.

Test necessary and mandatory in quarantine –

The countries to which this no-fly zone applies have also been designated as very high-risk areas with a worrying virus variant.

Travelers who are exceptionally allowed to travel to the Netherlands must therefore show a negative PCR test result of a maximum of 24 hours old and must be quarantined immediately after arrival .

The quarantine period is 10 days. This can be shortened to 5 days with a negative test result at the GGD.
