Nagpur: Despite recording over 18,000 cases in Maharashtra on Tuesday, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said that the state has no plans of imposing lockdown in the state.
A meeting on the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the state was called by Pawar and no decision regarding a full lockdown in the state. As per ANI, Health minister Rajesh Tope and other senior government officers attended the meeting.
On Tuesday, Mumbai civic body chief Kishori Pednekar hinted at a lockdown in the city if the daily cases cross 20,000-mark. Pednekar appealed to the citizens of Mumbai to wear triple-layer masks, especially while traveling in the public transport. Earlier, minister Vijay Wadettiwar hinted at a lockdown in the state amid a surge in cases. He then however said that the final decision will be taken by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Tope while addressing the media clarified that the imposition of lockdown in the state is not on the cards as of now. He added, “The government will take decisions about restrictions by taking into consideration the case positivity rate, hospital bed occupancy and oxygen consumption.”
Maharashtra on Tuesday logged 18,466 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, of which, 10,000 cases were recorded in Mumbai itself. The state has also recorded the highest number of Omicron variants with 653 cases.
