Covid-19 wreaks havoc in US; 1.3 million cases recorded, highest of all time

Nagpur: The United States on Monday recorded 1.35 million new Covid-19 cases, the highest ever spike recorded till date. The cases are the highest daily total for any country in the world as of any country in the world as the spread of Omicron variant has shown no signs of slowing, as per a report in Reuters.

Earlier on January 3, 1.03 million cases were recorded due to under reporting over the weekend. The seven-day average for new cases has tripled in two weeks to over 700,000 new infections in a day. Other than this, the US on the very same day saw the highest number of hospitalization cases due to Covid-19, as per Reuters tally.

As per local reports, the country is facing a massive hospital shortage. Despite having mild symptoms, the hospital staff is working.

According to Reuters, even though the Omicron strain being reported is a less severe variant as compared to the other variants, the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients have doubled in the last three weeks, surpassing the hospitalization record of 132,051 last year.
