Nagpur: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman once again ditched the traditional ‘Bahi Khata’ and opted for the tablet to announce the Union Budget 2022. This year is Sitharaman’s fourth budget after 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The budget mainly focuses on the seven key areas—PM Gati Shakti, inclusive development, productivity enhancement, sunrise opportunities, energy transition, climate action and financing of investments. The budget seems to be more focused on development on the agricultural sector. “Chemical-free natural farming will be promoted throughout the country with a focus on farmers’ land in a 5 kms wide corridor along with river Ganga, in the first stage,” Sitharaman said.

In what can be called as a boost for the Indian economy, the country’s growth is estimated to be at 9.2 per cent, highest among all large economies, as per the union finance minister. Sitharaman also announced RS 2.37 lakh crore worth of MSP direct payments to wheat and paddy farmers.

Startups will be promoted to facilitate drone shakti to make drone a service, announced Sitharaman. On Monday, Sitharaman presented the Economic survey which pegged the GDP growth at 8 to 8.5 per cent.
