Nagpur: Amid declining Covid-19 cases in India, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to all states and union territories asking them to end additional Covid-19 restrictions.
The letter further stated that the states and UTs should continue to monitor the situation and the spread of infection on a daily basis. Bhushan asked the states to follow a five-fold strategy of test, track, treat, vaccination and adherence to Covid-19 appropriate behavior.
The health secretary also said, “I am sure that under your continued leadership the state and UT will continue to address the challenge of Covid-19 while minimising its impact on the lives and livelihood of the people.”
Meanwhile Assam has become the first state to withdraw all the Covid-19 restrictions imposed. The state is headed back to normalcy, the way it was before the pandemic. On the other hand, for the first time ever since January 2, Mumbai recorded zero Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday. Earlier, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar had said that the city will be fully unlocked by February end.
India on Thursday recorded 30,575 new Covid-19 cases and 541 deaths in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate has dipped down to 2.61 per cent which indicates the decline in cases and the end of Omicron-driven third wave in India.
