Bird flu detected in Maha after 100 birds die in Thane

Nagpur: Bird flu cases detected in Thane after almost 100 birds died in a poultry farm. As per reports, the bird flu cases have been reported from Bihar.

Chief executive officer (CEO) of the Thane Zilla Parishad, Dr Bhausaheb Dangde in a statement said, “Around 100 birds died at the poultry farm in Vehloli village in Shahapur tehsil recently. Their samples were sent to a Pune-based laboratory for testing and the results confirmed that they died due to H5N1 avian influenza.”

He further added that post this, around 25,000 birds being reared at the poultry farms in one kilometer of the area of the affected farm will be culled in the next couple of days. On Wednesday, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said that Bihar reported an outbreak of the highly contagious H5N1 bird flu virus.

The organization further added that the virus killed 787 birds out of 3,859 birds present in the farm in Patna and other remaining birds were slaughtered. As per reports, the outbreak started on January 18 and was reported on February 16.
