Netherlands – Nuisance expected from storm Eunice: much fewer trains, schools closed earlier

Spread the love

Storm Eunice will cause a lot of nuisance in the Netherlands tomorrow. For example, there will be no more domestic and international trains from 2 p.m. and KLM will cancel almost 170 flights. Schools also close earlier and many test and vaccination locations of the GGD close earlier.

The KNMI has issued code orange for most of the country for tomorrow because of the storm. Code yellow only applies to Limburg.

The NS considers there is a good chance that trees will blow on the track. “It is also too dangerous for emergency teams to provide assistance or carry out repair work during such a severe storm.”

Storm timetable

Tomorrow morning there will be a storm timetable and fewer trains will be running. Regional carriers do run their normal timetable in the morning, ProRail reports, but regional trains also no longer run after 2 p.m. The NS advises travelers to keep a close eye on the journey planner “and if possible not to travel tomorrow”.

KLM says that “a very limited operation” will be possible for the company at Schiphol tomorrow, which could also cause delays. The company advises travelers to check the airline’s website before departure. Passengers affected by cancellations will be informed by the company. They are rebooked to other flights.

As a result of the stormy weather, many GGD vaccination and test streets across the country close at the beginning of the afternoon, the regional GGDs report.

Educational institutions are also taking measures because of the weather. For example, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, INholland, Fontys in Tilburg and Saxion University of Applied Sciences report that physical education is provided until 12 noon, after which the courses will close. Several secondary schools and MBOs will also stop teaching in the classroom around that time.

The institutions want to give students the opportunity to go home on time, because NS will stop running from 2 p.m.
