Nagpur: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Board Company Limited has cut down the supply of power to the Maharashtra Bamboo development Board on Katol road. This decision comes after the National Green Tribunal issued notice against various agencies, including Maharashtra Pollution Control Board seeking them to cast a reply within six weeks on a series of violations.

The violations were exposed in a blast on October 13, 2020 at the bamboo treatment unit of MBDB which is located at the Gorewada reserve forest. At least 4-5 working people were there at the treatment unit when the blast took place.

The MBDB is running with a lack of clearances, the board doesn’t have prior permissions from forest department, the industrial units were being run without obtaining mandatory clearance from MPCB, violating the prevention Acts from the water and Air pollution Prevention Act,1981, and without having a license from the industrial department.

With the set of complaints, MPCB did an on spot inspection and urged the state government to shut all the operating units inside Gorewada. After a while as the unit was closed by following state order, power was not snapped to this unit.
