Snapchat incorporates new lens feature to help users learn American Sign Language

Spread the love

Snapchat has launched a new ASL Alphabet lens, providing users with a one-of-a-kind learning experience for the American Sign language. Snapchat collaborated with SignAll, a company that develops technology to translate sign language.

Users can now fingerspell their names using individual letters, as well as practice the ASL Alphabet and play a few games to test their understanding.

“For native signers, in a world where linguistic inequality is prevalent, we believe AR can help evolve the way we communicate,” the company stated in a blog post. “We look forward to learning more from our community as we work to continuously improve Snapchat experiences for everyone.”

Snap has even established a $3.5 million fund to assist Snapchat lens creators and developers who use the company’s Lens Studio tool. According to the company, 2.5 million lenses were created by 2,50,000 lens creators from over 200 countries and have been viewed more than 3.5 trillion times.
For the International Week of the Deaf in September, Snapchat also released stickers and AR lenses in collaboration with SignAll.

The new lenses are now available to Snapchat users worldwide, on iOS and Android.
