Nagpur: The Maharashtra government on Monday decided to conduct all the university exams across the state in offline mode.

In a major setback to the students who had been protesting against offline exams, the higher education minister on Monday announced that the decision to hold offline exams was taken after an online meeting with all vice chancellors and government universities who had unanimously decided to hold the exams in offline format.

As per a report by TOI, Samant said, “We had already declared 30 minutes extra to examinees as they have become habitual to online models and were short of practice in writing papers in pen and paper format.” He added that they have accepted the VC’s demand of providing a two-day gap for every paper and also distribution of question banks to students prior to the exams. “The questions will be provided by the respective universities,” he added.

Talking about the heatwave in the state, the higher education minister said that it was decided to commence the exams from June 1, by the time the extreme conditions reduce. “The papers would continue till June-end or July first week,” he said.

He also made it clear that students would not be offered multiple-choice question papers and will be having to write proper theoretical answers to the questions.

Nagpur University BOEE Prafulla Sable last week announced that summer examinations of the university students will be taken in online mode and not in offline mode after a huge protest by the university students.
