Nagpur: 71 Covid-19 cases were reported on the campus of Sathya Sai Medical College in Chengalpattu on Saturday.
As per the health department officials, 29 cases out of the 45 reported from May 3 and 7 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Another 42 samples returned positive on Saturday. Till now, 972 persons have been tested for the virus.
A cluster had emerged in IIT-Madras where 217 cases were reported. Till date, 7,376 samples were tested, registering a positivity rate of 2.9%. Of the 217 persons, 197 persons were discharged.
On Sunday, 24 students of the National Institute of Design tested positive for Covid-19. The cases were recorded in just the span of three days. The academic activities of the institute have been suspended and new boys’ hostels and other blocks of the college have been declared as micro-containment zones.
An official said, “In the last three days, 24 students of the NID have tested positive for COVID-19. They have been kept under isolation in the hostel, which has been declared a micro containment zone.”
In Odisha’s Raygada district, 64 students living in two hotels were found to be Covid-19 positive as the state recorded 71 new cases on Sunday, as per the officials. Hostel matron Namita Samal said, “All of them are asymptomatic and have been kept in isolation. All precautionary measures are being taken by the authorities to prevent further spread of the virus.”
