Nagpur: Amid the rising protests across the country against the Centre’s new military scheme- Agnipath, industrialist Anand Mahindra has stepped into the picture.

Mahindra said he was saddened by the violence and stressed that the discipline and skills of Agniveers would make them ‘eminently employable.’ He added that their business group would like the opportunity to recruit people trained under the scheme.

Over 500 trains have been canceled today in view of the Bharat Bandh call in various parts of the country against the controversial Agnipath scheme. The railways have suffered a major loss of property due to arson and riots by the protestors.

A ‘Satyagraha’ has been organized by the Congress leaders at Jantar Mantar today to express solidarity with the armed forces aspirants protesting against the scheme. In Uttar Pradesh, the police said strict action will be taken against those who will be found disrupting peace in the state. In Punjab, the police have been asked to monitor the activities of social media groups that are spreading false information about the scheme.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Home Affairs banned 35 Whatsapp groups for spreading fake news on the ‘Agnipath’ scheme and ‘Agniveers.’
