Nagpur: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said that he was ready to step down from the post if the MLAs wanted him to do so.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi seems to be facing political instability with over 45 MLAs extending support to rebel MLA and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde. The MLAs are currently camping at Guwahati and are reportedly in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government in Maharashtra.
Thackeray is currently fighting to keep control over Shiv Sena. In his address to the state on Wednesday, the chief minister said, “If MLAs say, then I am ready to leave the post, it’s not about numbers but how many are against me. I will leave the post even if there is one MLA against me.”
He also said that it was NCP supremo Sharad Pawar who asked him to take up the chief ministerial berth while forming the government.
On Wednesday night, Thackeray vacated the chief minister’s bungalow ‘Varsha’ and moved back to his residence ‘Matoshree.’ He also appealed to the MLAs to have a word with him and end the political differences.
Speculations are rife that Shinde has the support of 47 MLAs in total and might join hands with the BJP to form the government in Maharashtra.
