Nagpur: Japan’s former #primeminister Shinzo Abe was shot twice today while he was giving a speech at a political event. The attacker has been arrested.
As per ex-Tokyo governor Yoichi Masuzoe, 67-year-old Abe was in a state of #cardiopulmonaryarrest. Prime minister Fumio Kishida said that the former leader was in grave condition. Police said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting has been arrested.
As per local media reports, the shooter was dissatisfied with Abe and wanted to kill him. Chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said, “Former prime minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 am in Nara. One man, believed to be the shooter, has been taken into custody. The condition of former prime minister Abe is currently unknown.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock over the incident and said, “Deeply distressed by the attack on my dear friend Abe Shinzo. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Japan.”
Not just Modi, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Manmohan Singh too, expressed their shock over the incident. Gandhi took to Twitter and said, “Deeply distressed by the attack on my dear friend Abe Shinzo. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Japan.”
