Nagpur: Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu who had been in the headlines during the farmers protest died in a road accident near Delhi on Tuesday night.

As per reports, Sidhu was driving with a friend in a white Scorpio which then rammed into a stationary truck. The accident took place near Kharkhoda, Haryana at the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway. He was travelling with actor and friend Reena Rai from Delhi to Bathinda.

Hospital authorities said that he was brought dead.

Sidhu had been out on bail after he was arrested by the Delhi Police in February 2021 in connection with farmers’ protest on Republic Day that turned violent after the protestors started attacking the Red Fort. The protests were caused due to the three controversial farm laws which were introduced by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in 2020. After months of protests and uproar, the laws were scrapped by Modi ahead of Punjab Assembly elections which are due on February 20.

The famous Punjabi actor was released on bail on April 17 but was arrested on the same day in another case by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for allegedly damaging public property. The Delhi Police had filed a 3000-page charge sheet against Sidhu.
Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi tweeted his condolences on the actor’s death.
