Children from Rotterdam will travel for free on public transport in 2022

From 1 January 2022, all children aged 4 to 12 years registered in Rotterdam will travel for free on public transport in the city.

It will be an experiment at first, the municipality of Rotterdam reported on Wednesday.

Rotterdam will start in the new year with the trial ‘free public transport for children’.

Claim Free Bets

This means that all children between the ages of 4 and 11 can travel for free for a year with the RET means of transport such as the metro, tram and bus and the EBS bus line in Rozenburg.

In order to make use of this, your child must be registered in Rotterdam. You also need your own personal OV chip card.

This allows you to request free travel.

This is possible from December 1, 2021 via the page

Your child needs a personal OV chip card and DigiD for this.

Children can travel for free when accompanied by an adult.

Children from 0 to 3 years old already travel for free with public transport. They do not need an OV chip card.

Accessible public transport
With this trial, the Municipality of Rotterdam wants to make public transport more accessible for all children in Rotterdam.

This makes public transport an attractive alternative to the car for families.

Parents with child(ren) are given the opportunity to travel in a safe, comfortable and clean way, without having to look for a parking space.

In this way, children in Rotterdam have the opportunity to become familiar with public transport from an early age and to discover fun, new places in the city.
