Nagpur: Farmers of Karnal who were protesting since the last five days have agreed to end their stir with the government.
An announcement was made during a joint press conference by the farm leaders and the Karnal administration.
The demonstrators called off their protest over IAS officer Ayush Sinha’s controversial “crack farmers heads” remark.
A meeting was held in which the administration accepted most of the demands of the protestors.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni in a statement said “After discussions, we have collectively decided to call off the protest here (outside the mini-secretariat).”
The farmers started protesting on September 7 against the police action in August after 10 farmers were injured.
After holding four rounds of meetings between both the sides, Haryana additional chief secretary Devender Singh affirmed a judicial enquiry by a retired judge of the high court into the August 28 violence.
Several protesters were lathi charged while heading towards Karnal to protest against a meeting by the BJP.
Singh added that a probe report will be submitted within a month.
