Google releases Android 14 Developer Preview 2

Google released the first Developer Preview of Android 14 last month, and the company is back with the second Developer Preview. According to GSM Arena, a tech news website, the new release includes additional privacy, security, and performance enhancements, as well as further refinement of the experience on tablets and foldables.

According to Google’s official timeline, the first Beta release will take place in April, followed by three more in subsequent months. Android 14 Development Preview 2 supports allowing apps to access only specific photographs and videos, all of them, or none at all.

Credential Manager is a platform API in Android 14 that allows apps to sign in using passkeys. According to GSM Arena, the second DP includes improvements to the UI styling of the account selector as well as API changes based on feedbck from DP1. Apps targeting Android 14, which will initially be a very small subset, will need to grant permission to start background activities.
