Nagpur: India on Thursday reached a historic one billion-mark of Covid-19 vaccinations milestone. The central government wants all of India’s 944 million 18-plus population to get fully vaccinated this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter and congratulated the country on this milestone. He called this historic moment the ‘triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians.’
As per the government, almost three-quarters of adults in the country of 1.3 billion people have had one shot of the Covid-19 vaccine and at least 30 per cent of the adults are fully vaccinated. Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are the top states which have administered the highest number of doses of the vaccine.
Union health minister Mansukh Madaviya also took to the micro-blogging website and hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for achieving a milestone.
The historic moment will be celebrated by a song by renowned singer Kailash Kher and an audio-visual film at the red Fort which will be launched by the Union health minister. National flag weighing around 1,400 kg will be raised at the Red Fort according to the PTI.
