Nagpur: Madhya’s Pradesh Indore has bagged the title of India’s cleanest city for the fifth time in a row under the Centre’s Swachh Survekshan 2021 award on Saturday.
Gujarat’s Surat and Andhra Pradesh’s Vijaywada have bagged the second and the third position respectively. Coming to states, Chhattisgarh has won the title of country’s cleanest state. On the other hand, Varanasi got the first position in the cleanest Ganga town category.
President Ram Nath Kovind presented Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021 to the respective cities and states at Vidyan Bhawan in Delhi on Saturday. A total of 4,320 cities participated in the edition of Swachh Survekshan. The cities in this are usually rated using star system, however, 423 cities will be given certificates under some star rating. The list includes none five-stars cities and 166 cities with three-stars and 167 one-star cities.
Last year, Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Rajkot and Surat (Gujarat), Mysore (Karnataka), Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra), and Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) were given five-star ratings.
