Nagpur: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday said that the Income Tax Department’s raid at various locations across Maharashtra linked to family members of Ajit Pawar could be the result of raising voices against the Lakhimpur Kheri district incident.
While addressing a press conference in Baramati, Pawar claimed that the inquiry of persons were not related to the financial transactions under the lens but was “excessive use of power,” and urged people to decide till when they would resist this.
The NCP supremo added that the IT raids in the state are just another reaction from the central government after the state called for a bandh due to the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri district in which eight people were killed, of which four of them were alleged to be farmers.
Pawar said, “I have strongly condemned the UP (Lakhimpur Kheri) incident where the farmers have been killed. I even compared the incident to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Even the state government condemned the incident in the cabinet meeting. It is evident and cannot be ruled out that the action taken by the IT department against various firms in the state is a reaction to our condemnation of the Lakhimpur incident.”
The Income Tax department raises some businesses in Maharashtra related to the Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, his family members and some real estate developers on the charges of tax evasion on Thursday.
