Nagpur: Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and independent Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani are reportedly all set to join hands with the Congress party on October 2.
Reports claim that Mevani will be appointed as the Congress’ state working president.
Mevani represents Vadgam constituency of Gujarat.
Mevani is said to be constantly in touch with the grand-old party and had praised Rahul Gandhi as well as the party today in a post after Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as the first Dalit-Sikh chief minister of Punjab.
Kumar, who is an activist-politician, sparked speculation on his political switch after meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on September 16.
Kumar is expected to bring a few other Left leaders with him when he joins Congress.
It is said that the former JNUSU prez met RaGa twice in two weeks and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to discuss the future role in the party.
As per a report, the leaders were supposed to join the party on September 28 but the date has now been shifted to October.
