Nagpur: Election/ poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Tuesday rejected Congress party’s offer to join up as a part of its ‘empowered action group,’ bringing end to months long negotiations to revive the dynasty party.

As per sources, the grand-old-party refused to give him a free hand, despite agreeing internally that they need a fresh face and transformational strategy for next general elections which are due in 2024.

Kishor took to twitter and confirmed the development. He said, “I declined the generous offer of #congress to join the party as part of the EAG & take responsibility for the elections.” In his tweet further said, “In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms.”

Senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, too announced the development on his Twitter handle. He said, “Following a presentation & discussions with Sh. Prashant Kishor, Congress President has constituted a Empowered Action Group 2024 & invited him to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility. He declined. We appreciate his efforts & suggestion given to party.”

Since the past few months, Kishor had been holding several meetings with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and also made detailed presentations about his plans. The poll strategist played a major role in getting Prime Minister Narendra Modi into limelight in 2014, helping them win the general elections.

Kishor runs the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) and his recent clients include YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and MK Stalin.
