Maharashtra Assembly Session: The BJP files a breach of privilege complaint against Sanjay Raut for his remark about “chor mandal”

Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar ordered an investigation into Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut’s alleged “thieves” and “house of thieves” remarks made to MLAs and the Assembly on Wednesday.

Raut was served with a breach of privilege notice by BJP MLA Atul Bhatkalkar. As a result of Raut’s remarks, Narvekar said he would look into it and adjourned the House for the day. During today’s budget session, the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha adjourned four times due to sloganeering. Earlier in the day, Raut allegedly called the Vidhan Sabha a “Chor Mandal” and the MLAs thieves and goons while speaking to reporters in Kolhapur.

“This is not a legislature, but a gang of thieves. Will we leave the party if we are removed from the position? The party has given us many such positions, Balasaheb has given them, and Uddhav ji has given them, we are not hawkers,” Raut allegedly said. While speaking to the media, Mumbai BJP President and MLA Ashish Shelar expressed his displeasure with Raut’s remarks, saying that those who are thieves see everyone else as thieves. Shelar added, “Sanjay Raut has no work, he just sits idle. In his spare time, he simply sits and watches movies and makes statements, but this is an insult to the assembly, and all the members present here are also insulted.”

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole said, “We do not support Sanjay Raut’s statement, the legal process that has to be done on this will happen. All the other MLAs also agreed with this.”He claimed that the government caused such a commotion that the House had to be adjourned. “There are many topics in Maharashtra on which we must discuss and seek answers from the government, but the government does not allow the house to run, so what can we do now?” Nana Patole said.
