Nagpur: Maharashtra is once again becoming the Covid-19 hotspot as the state has been recording over 1,000 cases since the starting of June.
The state government has asked to ramp up testing in all the districts to reduce the spread of the virus. State cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday said that Maharashtra could be staring at the fourth wave of Covid-19 and urged the people not to panic as the positivity rate is not high as of now.
Health minister Rajesh Tope also said that the Covid-19 cases are currently restricted to districts like Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar.
The state government also made face masks mandatory in closed spaces like malls, auditoriums, hospitals, colleges, buses and trains.
Mumbai on Sunday recorded 961 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday. Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan also wrote to Maharashtra, along with a few more states that contributed much to India’s Covid-19 toll, and urged them to take pre-emptive action if needed.
Several personalities including former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis have tested positive for Covid-19.
