Minor in Maharashtra raped in railway premises, 2 police stations refused to file FIR

Nagpur: A day after a 34-year-old woman who was brutally raped passed away, a 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man in the railway premises of Ulhasnagar town in Thane.

As per Railway police commissioner Qaisar Khalid, the incident took place on Friday night, adding that the accused has been identified as Shrikant Gaikwad and was arrested on Saturday.

According to Khalid, the minor was on a skywalk at the railway station along with her two other (female) friends while returning home from Shirdi.

The accused allegedly threatened her and forcefully dragged her to an isolated place and then raped her.

He added that in the morning she somehow managed to escape and informed the family about the incident.

As soon as the family went to lodge a complaint at their nearest Hill Line police station, they were asked to go to the Vithalwadi police station claiming that the crime did not take place “in their jurisdiction.”

After reaching the Vithalwadi police station, the victim’s family was asked to the Kalyan GRP as the incident took place under the railway station premises.

The case was finally registered at the Kalyan GRP after they approached welfare GRP police station.

The accused was arrested on Saturday with the help of CCTV installed at the station.

The accused has been sent to police custody till September 21.
