Nagpur: The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it is setting up a technical expert committee to inquire into the Pegasus scandal. Chief Justice NV Ramana said this in a hearing on Thursday morning and added that interim orders for the same will be issued next month.
Ramana claimed that some technical experts are expressing ‘personal difficulty’ and are declining to be part of the committee. “We wanted to pass an order on the matter before this week… but some members we thought of considering for the (expert) committee… for personal reasons they declined to be part of this committee. Hence the delay,” he said.
The top court said it will pass an order next week on pleas seeking independent probe into the matter. “We will be able to finalise the members of the technical expert team by next week and pronounce the orders,” Ramana added.
The top court on September 13 had reserved its order, saying it only wanted to know whether or not the Centre used the spyware through illegal methods to allegedly snoop on citizens. The Centre had allegedly refused to file an affidavit citing national security on pleas seeking an independent probe into the snooping row.
