Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday in a private event said that Tesla chief Elon Musk should manufacture electric vehicles in India and not import them from China.
“My suggestion to Elon Musk is that he will get a good market in India. The Indian market is very huge so it is a win-win situation for both. All vendors available in China are also here, be it for spare parts or for any other things at comparable quality from Indian manufacturers,” he said in the event.
Gadkari further added that if he will make it here in India, he will save in India and get good profits. “I will request him to come to India and start manufacturing,” he said. Tesla has been vying the Indian market for a long time. Earlier in January Musk had said that his company is facing ‘a lot of challenges’ for launching its cars in the country.
The Tesla chief recently brought microblogging giant Twitter for $44 billion.
