Nagpur: Even though Maharashtra government allowed schools to reopen for all classes from December 1, schools will remain closed at a few places in the state till December 15.
Cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Nagpur have decided not to reopen schools for classes one to seven till December 15 due to the threat of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the state. In Mumbai, BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal announced that schools will remain closed till December 15 due to the newly-discovered variant threat. Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol also made the announcement saying that in view of the new variant of Covid-19 – Omicron schools will not reopen from December 1 and will remain closed till 15th of this month.
Similarly, Nashik Municipal Corporation also issued a notice stating the same. Maharashtra education minister Varsha Gaikwad had earlier announced that schools for all classes would reopen from December 1 with full Covid-19 protocols.
The BMC has made it mandatory for the passengers arriving from South Africa to quarantine themselves on arrival. Currently six passengers who arrived from South Africa have tested positive for Covid-19, however, the officials are yet to detect the variant.
