Nagpur: Petrol prices were increased 78 times, while diesel prices were increased 76 times in the last one year, the Centre informed the Parliament on Monday.
Union minister of State for Petroleum and Gas, Rameswar Teli filed a written reply in the parliament after Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chaddha raised a question in the Rajya Sabha. Teli said prices of petrol were raised 78 times and diesel were raised 76 times in the financial year 2021-22.
Chaddha took to microblogging site Twitter and said that the confession by the government is ‘looting’ the common man. He said, “In reply to my question in Rajya Sabha, the Central Government conceded that the prices of petrol and diesel have been hiked 78 times and 76 times respectively in the last one year. This is a clear confession by the Government of looting the common man.”

He further added, “Quite surprisingly, as against the steady increase in fuel prices, the number of times that prices were reduced was only seven and 10 times for petrol and diesel respectively in the same period (2021-2022).” The opposition has been demanding a discussion on inflation and price rise.
