Nagpur: Around 400 schools in the city today have reopened today after being shut for more than a year. Maharashtra education minister Varsha Gaikwad gave a nod to reopen the schools for classes 8 to 12 from October followed by permission from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
This will be the first time the city schools will be hosting offline classes. Schools in the rural areas have got the permission to start standard 5 to 12. As per deputy director of education (Nagpur division) Vaishali Jamdar, 426 schools may reopen from Monday, of which 353 are private schools and the rest are run by the NMC.
Various students were seen attending classes, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari was spotted welcoming the students to the schools after more than a year. Tiwari inspected the proper planning of the school and if the rules were being followed according to the SoP issued by the government.
Schools across Maharashtra have reopened, receiving mixed responses from parents as well as students. “I’m still not very comfortable with children attending the school as most of them are not vaccinated and the infection rate could be higher,” said Komal, a resident of Rajnagar.
However, children had another point of view and claimed that they are happy to be back in school as they are now getting a break from the online classes. The schools have been conducting online classes ever since nationwide lockdown was declared across the country.
