Shanghai goes under lockdown as new Covid-19 cases continue to surge

Nagpur: As the whole world is heading towards normalcy, China, on the other hand, has imposed a Covid-19 lockdown on the largest and the financial capital—Shanghai.

Shanghai cranked up lockdown restrictions for the residents and have asked them to step out only for their Covid-19 tests. As per the statement issued, all the residents in the Pudong district will be confined to their homes.

Officials of Shanghai Municipal Health commission on Tuesday said that residents shouldn’t walk in the hallways, garages or open areas of the residential compounds. He added that activities like walking their pets around is also prohibited.

The stricter lockdown rules came a day after the Chinese financial hub started sealing off its 25 million people in two stages, with half the city locked down for four days, followed by the other half. The goal is to test the entire city for Covid-19, part of the effort to get its biggest outbreak to date under control.
