US President Joe Biden nominates Shefali Razdan Duggal as the new United States ambassador to the Netherlands. Duggal, 50, is a political activist and campaigner for women’s rights.
Razdan Duggal was born in the Indian region of Kashmir and came to the US at the age of 2. She lives and works in San Francisco. In recent years, she fulfilled several roles within the Democratic party. She also chaired the women’s movement that campaigned for Biden in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election.
The Senate has yet to approve the nomination. If Razdan Duggal is appointed, she will succeed Pete Hoekstra, who stepped down as ambassador more than a year ago after Donald Trump lost the presidential election.
