Shraddha murder case is not about “love jihad”: Owaisi

Shraddha Murder Case

Citing the horrifying Shraddha Walkar murder case, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi chastised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday for giving the incident a “religious angle” and claiming that the incident is not about “love jihad.”

Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), stated that the BJP’s politics on this issue are completely incorrect.

Owaisi said, “BJP politics over this is completely wrong. It is not a case of love jihad, but of exploitation and abuse against a woman, and that is how it should be viewed and condemned.”

Recalling the Azamgarh incident in which a man murdered his wife and kept her in a suitcase, the AIMIM chief stated that while such incidents are heartbreaking, they should not be politicised or given a Hindu-Muslim angle.

While campaigning in Delhi, Owaisi slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for giving the incident a religious spin.

On November 20, CM Sarma stated that India requires a Uniform Civil Code and a law prohibiting ‘love jihad.’

During a roadshow in Delhi ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, the Assam Chief Minister stated, “India does not need a person like Aaftab (Shraddha murder case accused), but a person like Lord Ram, a leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

With his party contesting only 13 seats in the Gujarat assembly elections, Owaisi stated, “We trust the people and the constitution of the country, and our fight will strengthen Indian democracy.”

“We don’t need permission from any other party to fight elections; it’s our right,” he said. We believe in the people and the constitution of the country, and that our fight will strengthen Indian democracy.”
