Nagpur: The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Sunday wrote to the President of India Ram Nath Kovind urging him to withdraw Padma Shri which was conferred on Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.

The Sikh body also filed a complaint against her on Saturday for allegedly making seditious and derogatory remarks on the religion on social media. DSGMC and Shirmoni Akali Dal leader Majinder Singh Sirsa in the letter claimed that the actress has been ‘deliberately provoking Sikhs’ making references to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Further in the letter Singh said, “She does not deserve this honour. She does not represent the spirit of India which is based on harmony and goodness for all. Considering the social sentiments, Padma Shri should be withdrawn from her immediately for insulting farmers, Sikhs, and freedom fighters.”

The Sikh body has also submitted a complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Ranaut. A Khar police station official said a complaint was received from the DSGMC and they are looking into the matter.

The DSGMC demanded that an FIR be registered against Ranaut under section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and various other sections of the IPC.
