Nagpur: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in a meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah sought Rs 1,200 crore as development funds for the state. The meeting was on left-wing extremism (LWE) and was held in the national capital.
Thackeray sought funds to set up police posts, schools for tribal and cell phone towers to increase network connectivity in Chandrapur, Gondia and Gadchiroli districts. While the state government said Maoist activities in the state are under control, it has reportedly expressed concerns over the spread of the activities in key cities of the state.
“The naxal activities in these districts have come down significantly. Infrastructure networks in these districts have been strengthened over the past few years and it has helped the infested areas to come to the mainstream,” said an official from the home department. The official added that the state has demanded more funds for development of schools, installing more police posts and ensuring better communication networks for these districts.
According to the statement issued by the Central government, the union Home minister said it’s very important to neautralise the income of the LWEs. Shah urged all the chief ministers to give priority to the problem of LWE for the next one year and find a permanent solution for this problem.
