Nagpur: Singapore on Wednesday recorded an unusual surge in Covid-19 cases. The daily count surged above 5,000 cases for the first time just within a few hours. The health ministry claims that they are looking into the issue.

As of 12 pm by the data provided by the ministry of health, Singapore recorded 5,324 fresh Covid-19 cases with over 4,600 cases in the community and 661 from the migrant workers. As of now, there are nearly 66 critically ill patients who are in the intensive-care units and 76 who are unstable and are under monitoring.

The health ministry in a statement said, “The infection numbers are unusually high today, mostly due to many Covid-positive cases detected by the testing laboratories within a few hours in the afternoon.” It further added that the ministry is looking into this unusual surge in cases within a short span and the trend of the rising cases will be observed for the next few days.

This comes as a threat to Singapore as it is loosening border controls to allow in vaccinated visitors from other countries. In the latest, Indians are now allowed to travel to Singapore from Tuesday after the country announced resumption of travel for South Asia countries—which includes India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
