Nagpur: Ashish Mishra, son of union minister Ajay Mishra who has been accused of murder of farmers deaths in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh has been summoned for questioning. Sources in the police claimed that more action will follow against the accused.

This is the first time the union minister’s son has been summoned for questioning by the UP Police. This development comes after the Supreme court asked the state about arrests and actions taken in this matter.

Lucknow IG Lakshmi Singh said that two people are being questioned who have given a lot of information regarding the incident. Singh further said, “Two people are being questioned. They’ve confirmed the role of three others who are dead. We are sending summons to the main accused (Ashish Mishra) for questioning.”

Union minister Ajay Mishra had claimed that he would resign if the charges against his son are proved to be right. Mishra also alleged that the farmers had attacked his farmers first.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government has called for a statewide bandh on October 11 against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, said Maharashtra minister Jayant Patil on wednesday.

The farmers group allege that out of the eight killed, four of them were farmers who were protesting against the controversial farm laws.

The farmers had assembled to stop the visit of Union minister and Deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Maurya. It is said that one of the cars from the convoy mowed down the protesters. A leader of farmers’ union Dr Darshan Pal said that the union minister of state Ajay Mishra’s son was present in the car.

However, Mishra denied that his son was linked to the accident. “My son wasn’t present at the spot. There were miscreants who attacked workers with sticks and swords. If my son would’ve been there, he wouldn’t have come out alive,” Mishra said in a statement.

The farmers’ union said four farmers died after being hit by the car and six others were injured. One of the leaders of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, Tejinder S Virak has been seriously injured and has been admitted to the hospital.
