Netherlands, Worldwide Candle Lighting Day is celebrated the second Sunday of every December.
December 12 is World Lights Day.
This day was established in 1997 to commemorate deceased children – now all over the world.
Every second Sunday in December we commemorate children who have died for whatever reason. This year it will be on December 12th.
About World Lights Day
The day originated in America, as World Wide Candle Lighting.
Several countries have since taken over the day, creating a sea of light worldwide at 7 p.m. local time on the second Sunday in December.
Because we all deliver in different time zones, on December 12 it is actually one big lump of light on the world all day long.
‘Precious Child’
During World Lights Day, the song ‘Precious Child’, written especially for this day, will be played at various locations.
In the Netherlands, the statue ‘Altijd Hier’ by artist Marianne den Otter is placed in a beautiful spot in Apeldoorn, as a symbol of this special day.
